Heat + Humidity = Road Trip (Simply Charming)

The heat and humidity just won't let up, making nothing enjoyable.

We've spent more time this summer inside than being outside, for real.

In fact we're pretty sure that we spend more time outside in previous winters than we have this summer.  Because of my persnickety lungs, I literally cannot breathe in humidity so I have to be indoors once the humidity outside kicks up...and I think there's been maybe two days this summer when it wasn't excessively humid. The grill sits unused along with the gazebo and the lounge chairs and even the motorcycles.  It's too hot and humid to ride.  We're not beach people and I am fully the opposite of a sun worshipper so those activities are out.  We are actually looking forward to fall and winter so that we can spend time outside.  We'll be the weirdos barbecuing in January.

The only thing left to do when it's too unpleasant outside is to hit the road and wander around the backroads in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle.

Oh, how grateful I am for air conditioning.

On Saturday of this past Labor Day weekend, we set out for no place in particular but wound up in the Camden-Wyoming area of Delaware which was fine by me because that means stops at the Simply Charmings.

Simply charming is actually the term I would use to describe that area and so if you can manage it, I highly suggest that you take a trip to the simply charming Delaware towns of Camden, Wyoming, Camden-Wyoming (these names are confusing but don't worry, it's not a very big area so you can't really get confused) and stop in at the Simply Charmings, which are two antique type places in town.

Simply Charming is in town proper.  An old building filled with nooks and crannies and very reasonably priced eclectic offerings, be prepared to spend a good deal of time here as there is a lot to see.  And buy.

You know how sometimes you go shopping in a really great place and it's so good you don't want your time there to end?

Well, once you're done shopping at this location it doesn't have to end because you just need to drive up the street...

...and - voila! - you're at the next great Simply Charming.  Or, Simply Charming At The Mill.

When you pull into their driveway, you might be lucky enough to see a scene like this:

And then you round the driveway and see this:

and this...

and this...

And then...

AND THEN!...

you go inside and you see things like THIS!

be still my heart

I had left my credit card-filled wallet in the truck which was probably a good thing.

It was later in the afternoon so we didn't get to spend as much time inside as we would have liked, but I'll be going back real soon nice and early in the day.  With credit cards.

I would be remiss if I didn't tell you how nice the people are in these two locations.  Just real friendly and not pressure-y, which is always SO appreciated.

Both of these locations easily belong on my National Register Of Fantastic Places™.
